After a long hiatus and many off-the-record conversations, I accepted an invitation from Eva de Groote to visit her in Ghent at Vooruit Media Art Centre and somehow managed to time the trip so that I had the pleasure of conversing with many of the artists presenting their work in the festival: The Game Is Up! How to Save the World in Ten Days

Conversations from Transit Lounge Radio will be part of the program by artists in residence from reboot.fm
Cornerhouse Gallery 1 will be transformed into the ARTRADIO production and broadcasting studio. Open to visitors, the studio will form the base for a dynamic array of live residency broadcasts, events, pre-recorded, and archive programmes, as well as invited feeds, guest slots and submitted content. ARTRADIO will reach into people’s homes, offices, cars…, wherever they listen to the radio, and offer gallery visitors a chance to listen whilst also making transparent the usually hidden mechanisms of radio, one of the most avidly followed and accessible forms of media.

I didn’t make it to Venice for the Biennale, but you can listen to conversations with artists there by these young Italian artists from Radio Arte Mobile.

A GROUP OF VERY YOUNG ARTISTS, ALL RECENTLY GRADUATED AT IUAV (ISTITUTO UNIVERSITARIO DI ARCHITETTURA DI VENEZIA), GO AROUND THE LAGOON CITY IN THE SPACES THAT HOST THE EXHIBITIONS AND COLLATERAL EVENTS OF THE BIENNALE. THEY MEET AS MANY OF THE ARTISTS AS POSSIBLE THAT PARTICIPATED IN THE BIENNALE THROUGH INTERVIEWS AND WANT TO TESTIFY THEIR PRESENCE LIVE, INTENDED NOT ONLY AS PRODUCERS OF THE WORKS ON DISPLAY, BUT ALSO AS AUTHORS OF A POETIC THOUGHT EXPRESSED WITH THE WORD.
RAM – RADIOARTEMOBILE PROMOTES THESE LOOSE ENCOUNTERS, HAND TO HAND WITH ARTISTS OF DIFFERENT GENERETIONS AND COUNTRIES, UNDER THE GESTURE OF THE VERBAL MEETING AND CULTURAL EXCHANGE. A FURTHER STEP IN COMMUNICATION BEHIND AN ART SYSTEM THAT, RATHER, MOVES UNDER THE PERFORMATIVE GESTURE OF THE PUBLIC EVENT. INSTEAD , “TALK WITH ME” REPRESENTS THE ATTEMPT TO CREATE A SPACE OF CULTURAL INTIMACY THAT PERMITS ARTISTS TO SPEAK AND LISTEN TO EACH OTHER, IN A DIMENSION THAT EXCLUDES COMPETITION AND INCLUDES A SOCRATIC CADENCE.
